my favorite smoothie.

78ceaae8834511e2974222000a1fbdac_7Wanna get your day started right? Whip up a delicious smoothie to get your motor running. This is my all time fave, and I probably drink it 4 times a week. It’s super filling, packed full of plant power, and makes enough for two grownups or one mama and three mooching children.

Favorite Smoothie
serves 2 (or 4, see above)

1/2 ripe banana, frozen*
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1 whole apple, skin on, cored and chunked
2 handfuls spinach, kale, or a little of both
2 tbsp natural peanut butter or almond butter
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp ground flaxseed
1/2 – 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Pile all the ingredients in your blender and run on the chop setting. Then crank up to puree or liquify. Start with 1/2 cup almond milk and add more til it’s the consistency you like.  Drink up!

* when your bananas start getting spotty on the counter, cut them into chunks and put in tupperware in the freezer. If you don’t have frozen banana, use a fresh one and add a few ice cubes.

*fresh ripe strawberries are amazing mixed in when they’re in season.

*don’t be skeered of the spinach/kale. Start with just a handful if you’re worried, and work your way up. I promise you won’t taste it (your kids won’t even know it’s in there) and just think, you’ve started your day drinking salad! YUM!

*sometimes I drink the whole thing. don’t judge. i’m hungry.

  1. I drink a similar smoothie pretty much every day, although I’ve never tried putting an apple in and I don’t like blueberries. But you’re right, you can’t even taste the spinach!

  2. Have you tried Green Superfood (Chocolate Drink Powder) by Amazing Grass? I mix it with almond and/or coconut milk. It makes a great quick shake/smoothie.

  3. I agree with Chelsey and you on the spinach and kale. They change the color, but not the taste. Load the smoothie up with veggies and fruit; all you’ll taste is the fruit, and maybe some carrot if you use them.
