first flight

For the past few months, a little family of birds has been working away, making a nest in Jack’s window. The storm window was not shut all the way, so they snuck in and found the perfect spot, safe from the world.

Every day we would watch the Mama Bird come and go, bringing sticks and straw and leaves to the window, building her nest. A few weeks later, we heard the sounds of tiny chirps and saw the Mama bringing worms back to her babies. Just last week, we got to watch the baby birds climb up the screen and take off for their first flight into the world.

I wish you could have heard Ginny’s little voice saying, “Come on little birdie, you can do it! Come on!”  Absolutely melted my heart. So precious.

Almost there… we watched him climb up the whole screen, then make many attempts before he made it up to the ledge.  Once he made it up, he was off- right down into the leaves below, where his family was waiting for him.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? ” ~Matthew 6:26

  1. I love this!! We are going to have the same thing soon – we have a nest with eggs on our deck. I am resisting the urge to bring mama, eggs and nest inside to protect them. That last picture of yours is priceless.

  2. Ours flew the nest today! Boo hoo!

  3. Love it MB! Thanks for sharing your sweet story and scripture. Thank the Lord for little reminders of his creation and gifts.

  4. Killing me with the sweetness of that last picture…

  5. That is SO precious and wonderful! How did we not know about that?!? What great pictures, both of the birds and the “chicks”! We think bluebirds are building a nest in or birdhouse this year for the first time ever. Maybe your gang will get to see another bunch take flight over Memorial Day weekend!
